Ulvis Alberts exhibition - rare Elton John concert photographs from legendary club The Troubadour
The Troubadour is a small music club on Santa Monica Blvd. in West Hollywood.(At the border with Beverly Hills). It draws several hundred people to see and hear new talent. In the early 1970's I saw Tom Waits and Charles Bukowski at the Troubadour but... didn't have a camera. In 1974, when I stopped by the club, I remember the owner, Doug Weston standing outside the door hustling to get the public to enter to see Elton John. Elton who? was on the faces of many of the potential audience on the sidewalk.Inside, if you got passed the small bar at the door, was the stage for Elton's piano. I got lucky with a ringside seat and table (there's also a balcony).
And it was quickly clear with Elton at the piano that night and the Average White Band for back-up, this would be a night to remember. Elton brought the house down with some of the early songs, later to become hits. He was joined by Cher seated in the audience half-way thru the set and Elton's (one of the first) appearance in America was guaranteed to be rock history.

Ulvis Alberts will be exhibiting thirty of his most iconic B&W images for the very first time in the mid-west. Many of the images in this exhibit are vintage silver-gelatin,signed and numbered prints in an edition of 10.
Ulvis Alberts 362 page book of photographs "Camera as Passport" (1966-2008) will be available at the Icebox Gallery and he will happily sign it for you.
